Meet Libby Ellman, first-year member of our board on our Communications and Spruce Council committees, an avid reader and fan of the Gayborhood’s Graffiti Bar who finds inspiration in her fellow young leaders at Spruce making a big impact.
What’s your favorite part about living in or near Philly?
While I know Philly isn’t technically the center of the universe, it can feel like it sometimes. There’s always something going on. And if you ever want a change of scene, NY, DC, or the shore are all a quick drive away.
Who’s your favorite Philly icon, alive or dead?
Jim Gardner. He’s been the anchor for 6ABC Action New for as long as I’ve been alive and I’m really not looking forward to him retiring.
Your out-of-town friends are here for the weekend. Where in Philly do you take them for a good time?
Anywhere in the Gayborhood but I’m partial to a fishbowl from Graffiti Bar.
What’s a little-known fact about yourself?
I love reading! I read over 80 books this past year.
What’s your go-to coffee shop in Philly? And why?
Konditori! Their cafe au lait is amazing.
Which Philly cheesesteak spot is actually the best?
Oh 100% Dalessandro’s.
Favorite film or TV show that features Philly?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
What three words would you use to describe Philadelphia to someone not from here?
Historic, Unpretentious, and Dynamic
How long have you been involved with the Spruce Foundation? And why did you decide to get involved?
This is my first year on the Spruce Board but before that I was a member of Spruce Council and the Grant Review committee. Full disclosure, I initially found Spruce by googling “Young Professional Organizations in Philly.” I was really impressed that an organization run entirely by young professional volunteers could have such a large impact. I knew it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of.
What is your committee (or ad-hoc committee) working on right now that you’re most excited about?
I’m excited for all the upcoming events the Spruce Council ad-hoc committee is planning for 2022! We’re bringing in some really dynamic speakers.
The Spruce Foundation is managed by an all-volunteer group of rising stars in Philadelphia’s professional community who are dedicated to leveraging their skills to build a promising future for local youth. Learn more about the Spruce Foundation and who we are »
