Get to know Maggie Mandich, our very own Secretary, a Grace Kelly fan, and five-year supporter of the Spruce Foundation, from starting out as a grant reviewer to now being on the Executive Committee.
What’s your favorite part about living in or near Philly?
I love the parks and outdoor spaces along the river and the amazing food options all around the city.
Who’s your favorite Philly icon, alive or dead?
Grace Kelly.
What’s your go-to coffee shop in Philly? And why?
Function Coffee Lab. They have great pastries and are always super friendly!
What three words would you use to describe Philadelphia to someone not from here?
Vibrant, Energetic, and Scrappy.
How long have you been involved with the Spruce Foundation? And why did you decide to get involved?
I’ve been involved with Spruce Foundation for 5 years. I started out as a volunteer Grant reviewer and really liked getting to know more about the organization through the grant review process but wanted to get more involved, so I applied to be on the board. The way that Spruce connects with the community in Philly and builds relationships through the board was really impressive to me and I wanted to be a part of it.
What has been your favorite event, initiative, or accomplishment while you’ve been at Spruce?
One of my favorite accomplishments during the last few years of Spruce is seeing how the organization responded and adapted to the last two years. Its been great to see the creativity of board members in coming up with ways to address the uncertainty and challenges of hosting events, reaching new audiences and fundraising in the always changing circumstances. Everyone has done a really awesome job and given it their all.
